Let's try this again !!

This year I'm leading a trip across Utah on the original Pony Express Trail (all dirt but not too tough). An overnight campout at Blue Lake and then return on the original Transcontinental Railroad roadbed (all dirt and a little tougher but not technical). Anyone is welcome to join. No charge, just bring your own tent and cook pot. Details to follow.

My other plan is to traverse and document the Hastings Cutoff. This is the route the Donner Party took that led to their disaster. It's a trail that will be "lost" if people don't use it. I'm starting the research and will post as I make progress.

Stay tuned.

  1. When is the trip across Utah and how experienced should you be? How many hours a day will you be riding and how many days? Where roughly is the path that will be taken? Having never been to Utah I am not familiar with the terrain, knowing you have some big zki areas and mountains and vast plains or flatland...
Got a basic rundown of how much consumables we will need for this journey? Where will be resupply the bikes with fuel? Will we need rotipax fuel or will we be refueling every 150-200 miles? Is a VStrom capable of the trip? Description given sounds like it is possible as the path isn't too bad and Dunlop TrailMax Mission rear with Shinko 705 front should be able to handle it ifI don't do stupid stuff.
